The Coalition for Democratic Change has released a political calendar running into 2027, anchored by a Martyrs Day commemoration in Grand Cape Mount County, a prayer day led by former President George Weah, and an Extraordinary National Convention in Maryland County.
The Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), the party built around former President George Weah's rise to power, has released a political calendar of major activities running from this November into 2027, signaling an intensification of organizing ahead of the 2029 general elections.
CDC National Secretary-General Jefferson Tamba Koijee announced three major events in the release. The first is the 2026 Martyrs Day commemoration, scheduled for November 4 to 8 in Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County, under the theme "They Carried the Struggle, We Carry Their Legacy." Activities will include prayers, a candlelight vigil, a parade and sporting events, alongside the launch of a National Roll of Fallen CDC Partisans honoring members and supporters who died during the party's political struggle.
The second is a Day of Prayer for Liberia in October, to be led by former President Weah on his birthday. Rather than a traditional birthday celebration, the day will be dedicated to prayer activities focused on peace, the welfare of Liberians and the country's future.
The third is an Extraordinary National Convention scheduled for March 26 to 31, 2027, in Maryland County, with further details to be announced closer to the date.
The calendar comes as CDC officials have stepped up public engagement in recent months, including participation in talks with other opposition parties over coalition-building ahead of 2029. The party emerged as a major political force around Weah's candidacy in the 2005 elections before he went on to win the presidency in 2017.
