Speaker Koon Weighs Possible Move to Sinoe County for 2029

House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon may contest a legislative seat in Sinoe County in 2029, a potential shift from his long-standing Montserrado base.

House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon is reportedly weighing a run for a legislative seat in Sinoe County's Electoral District #1 in the 2029 elections, a move that would shift his political base away from Montserrado County, where he has represented voters since 2017.

No formal declaration, nomination or certification has been made, and Koon has not publicly confirmed the plan.

The prospect echoes earlier cross-county moves by other senior lawmakers, including Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr.'s shift from Montserrado to Bomi County in 2017 and Thomas P. Fallah's move from Montserrado to Lofa County in 2023. Analysts note that while Koon's national profile as Speaker could be an asset, a Sinoe bid would require him to build ties with a new electorate that may prioritize local presence and community ties over name recognition.
