The expedition cruise ship SH Diana docked in Monrovia on September 25 with 141 passengers, marking Liberia's third international cruise arrival this year, the first time in over a decade the country has recorded three such visits in one year.
The luxury expedition cruise ship SH Diana, operated by Swan Hellenic, arrived in Monrovia on September 25, 2026, carrying 141 tourists as part of a 13-night West African expedition. The visit marks Liberia's third international cruise arrival of the year, the first time in more than a decade the country has recorded three such visits in a single year.
The ship departed from Dakar, Senegal, on September 16 and is traveling along the West African coast, calling at The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Côte d'Ivoire before its final stop in Tema, Ghana.
During their stop in Monrovia, passengers visited several of the city's landmarks, including the Ducor Hotel, the National Museum of Liberia, Providence Baptist Church, Providence Island and the Centennial Pavilion. Cultural performances by the National Culture Troupe were held for visitors at Providence Island.
The Liberia National Tourism Authority and the Liberia National Tourism Association coordinated the day's activities, which created business for tour guides, transportation operators, restaurants, artisans and souvenir vendors in the capital.
Liberia's tourism sector has been working to rebuild its international profile in recent years, and officials have pointed to the growing number of cruise calls as a sign of renewed interest from international travelers in the country's history, culture and coastline.
